GH Motorcycles G&B Finch Team Update

This past weekend Tom Murphy headed off to Preston Docks to race the 4th round of the Pirelli British Masters Championship. Tom had a some difficulties the weekend before at the Route 77 British Cup at Mildenhall mx track as both of his bikes ended up blowing up. So the last week was a mad rush trying to get held of all the parts and built up ready to leave on Friday. Preston Docks is a soft sandy circuit but is very fast and flowing so it was going to be a test on the rider and machine.Tom’s first session on the track for qualifying went well and he managed to post the 12th fastest time of  02:19.821 giving him a decent gate pick for the weekends racing.

Tom Murphy was ready for race 1 and managed to get a fantastic start which ended up setting the theme for the weekend as he had top 3 starts in all races.Having a good start is also a huge advantage and makes your life so much easier as a racer. Tom then managed to hang onto the leaders pace early which kept him high up in the field to finally end the race in 7th. Race 2 on Saturday mirrored race 1 with another top 3 start and then finishing 7th again setting him up for a great weekend after a strong first day racing. Race 3 and 4 was on Sunday and again race 3 was similar to the first two races where Tom crossed the line in 7th again. race 4 was a different story though as he had his best result of the weekend, he finished 6th in the final race of the weekend in the hardest roughest conditions of the weekend. This et up Tom nicely for the the weekends overalls as it had him get a solid 6th place for the weekends efforts. This good result certainly makes the weeks mad rushing about trying to get the bikes all in order worth it.

These strong results of the weekend also helped in the championship standings as Tom sits 6th in the series overall and is only 23 points out of 3rd place, which is very close and not too far fetched to see him creep further up the order by the end of the year.

Wednesday evening last week also had the GH Motorcycles evening series kick off with its only round of 2015 being at Wattisfield Hall just out side of Bury St Edmunds.  We had 3 riders participate in this event with varied results. Brad Woodroffe had a nightmare of an evening as his bike stopped during practice due to a crank case seal blowing. Brendon Mayers didn’t have a great evening either although for different reasons. Brendon struggled with poor starts and then crashes which doesn’t help in the short sprint style races, this unfortunately meant he didnt make it through to the grand final. Brad Tomlin had a very strong evening and powered his way through to the grand final with ease. Unfortunately the gate pick for the grand final was off a clothes peg so it was luck of the draw and Brad didnt draw a good gate which left him with a 7th place start. Brad then worked his way up to 4th place and very nearly stole 3rd on the line. Brad Tomlin showed his raw hard pack speed on Wednesday which helped carry the GH Motorcycles G&B Finch team flag to a strong result.
