GH Motorcycles G&B Finch Team At The British

This past weekend saw the Maxxis British Motocross Championship return to Blaxhall mx circuit after being off the calender since 2009. The GH Motorcycles G&B Finch team had two riders competing this weekend in the MX1 class. Brad Woodroffe on his usual schedule and Aston Bird making a wild card appearance at British Championship level for the first time in 3 seasons all though never to be underestimated. The Woodbridge club did a fantastic job with preparing the circuit as they had spent weeks making sure the conditions were going to be up to British standards and they didnt disappoint with most likely hosting the best event this season so far.

Qualifying took place shortly after 10AM and with two sessions already been out on the track it had got some nice flowing lines already set in. Aston Bird showed right away that his speed is still there and all though he said he rode tight in the session he still posted the 25th fastest time and Brad Woodroffe just trailing behind him with the 27th fastest time.

Race 1 got under way at 1PM just as the rain started to fall but it didnt do any damage to the track it probably made it better, the only issue being was vision with rain gathering up on the goggles. Aston Bird got a decent start and settled into a rythem early and just clicked off the laps 1 by 1 to eventually finish the race in a points scoring 20th position showing everybody that he has still got it. Brad Woodroffe had a decent start but misfortune struck on lap 2 as a wire broke under the tank which kept shutting the bike down forcing him to retire from the race.

Race 2 had Aston Bird replicate race 1 almost just this time he finished 1 place higher with a 19th position by race end. Brad Woodroffe showed no speed in race 2 and ended up with a poor 28th place by race end, only positive being that the mechanics had found the problem and got it fixed so there was at least no excuses for the last race.

Race 3 again Aston Bird got off to a good start from a outside gate pick and then went on to have his strongest ride of the day getting a 15th by the time the race was over, he certainly showed a few guys the fast way around the track after being away from racing mx for so long, even though he has kept himself busy with a busy enduro racing schedule. Brad Woodroffe had a much better race 3 even with a poor start. He managed to fight his way up to a points scoring position in 20th place but only to lose it when he tucked the front end with 3 turns to go and losing a spot. That was just the way things turned out for Brad Woodroffe on the day and that is the way racing goes sometimes but at least Bird carried the GH Motorcycles G&B Finch flag high.

GH Motorcycles also had two of their staff Mark MacGregor and Dale Gladwin over at the event with a trade stand of a select few of the model bikes we sell. They were also on hand for enquires and in support of our team riders through out the day. We thank them for waking up at 4AM and only getting home at 9PM on their day off to make it possible.
