Round 3 of the Eastern Centre Motocross championship took place at the famous Cadders Hill mx circuit in Lyng this past weekend. For this championship round the organising club Norwich Vikings used the full Grand Prix Circuit. The track was prepared well but wasn’t ripped up nearly as deep as it was a month ago at the British Championships, but knowing the characteristics of the circuit it would certainly end up being a rough “mans” track come racing time.

Qualifying took place shortly after 10am. The track was very fast in the morning and the field part of the circuit was very choppy and rough as it had been left untouched since the previous event. Brad Woodroffe set the 5th fastest time of the session with a  02:12.788. Brad Tomlin set the 6th fastest time with a 02:13.003, Connor Hughes ended up 13th in the session with a time of 02:16.083 with Brendon Mayers right behind him in 14th with a time of 02:16.656 having all team mates gate picks for the 3 races right next to each other.

Race 1 got under way and Brad Woodroffe and Brad Tomlin had the luxury of being able to prepare and clean their start gate so they both got off to great starts with Brad Woodroffe grabbing the hole shot and leading early. Tomlin started around 6th but was an an absolute charge through the field to finally end up 3rd and very nearly getting 2nd across the line. Brad Woodroffe started the day slow and dropped back to 8th in the race while nursing a shoulder injury he picked up in the last round of the British champs. Connor Hughes had his best result of the season in race 1 finishing a strong 11th on the smaller 250 machine. Brendon Mayers was always going to have a hard day as he was on a borrowed bike for the weekend, as his RMZ450 had a part break on the calliper damaging the fork and unfortunately there isn’t any spares in Europe, as it is a part that would almost never have to be replaced. With all the odds stacked against him he gave it his all all after being involved in a first turn crash to come through to 17th.

Race 2 was much of the same from all riders as Brad Woodroffe took the hole shot again and after taking some strong pain killers managed to ride a lot smoother and grab 3rd place at the line. Brad Tomlin started further down than his fellow team mate and managed to race his way up to 5th place by the end of the race. Brendon Mayers had a better 2nd race on his borrowed bike ended up getting a 12th. Connor Hughes wasn’t as strong in race 2 as he was in race 1 but he still picked up good points by finishing 16th.

Race 3 was good for the team as a whole as all 4 riders finished inside the top 12 for the first time all season. Brad Woodroffe again got the hole shot on his Husqvarna FC350 making it all 3 for the day. He then went on to only lose one position and finish 2nd for race 3. Brad Tomlin spun coming out the gate leaving him way down and having to fight his way back to finish 7th. Brendon Mayers and Connor Hughes ended up 11th and 12th respectively but both mentioned it was hard work racing against the bigger MX1 bikes on the fast Cadders Hill circuit leaving them as sitting ducks on the long straights.
