2016 Weston Beach Race

Today’s 34th edition of the RHL Weston Beach Race was one to remember, with local hero Todd Kellett and former Grand Prix Motocross racer Tanel Leok swapping the lead nearly every lap in front of the 70 000 strong crowd and Irish racer Martin Barr held onto third in his HydroGarden Weston Beach Race debut.

Of course the action packed racing, which is unique as it pitches professional and amateur riders against each other on what is easily the most gruelling sand track in the UK. Having various riders from all different motor sport disciplines come and try their hand at the 3 hour solo race.

Red Bull KTM Factory racer Jonny Walker, world famous stunt rider Robbie Maddison and MotoGP star Scott Redding lining up for this year’s event with over 800 entries in the solo race alone, it was always going to be an incredible spectacle.

Local GH Motorcycles and G&B Finch Team rider Brendon Mayers took part in his second Weston beach race in 2016. Using his experience gained from the the previous year he was able to finish in 33rd overall in the main solo race. Enduro team member Steve Mason won the running race through the dunes on the Friday and then competed in the adult solo race on the Sunday but unfortunately Steve had bike problems which resulted in a dnf.
